When it comes to vodka, there are so many options to choose from. One brand that has been around for quite some time is Ketel One.

As someone who enjoys a good vodka, I decided to give Ketel One a try and see what all the fuss was about.

I found out that Ketel One is a Dutch vodka that is made using wheat and distilled in copper pot stills. This process gives the vodka a smooth and silky texture, which is something that I was definitely looking forward to experiencing.

Upon opening the bottle, I noticed a soft, restrained sweet wheat aroma with a very subtle hint of citrus and fresh sweet herbs.

The aroma was not overpowering but rather delicate and inviting.

Flavor Profile

As I took my first sip, I noticed a little toasty and a little sweet flavor from the 100% wheat base.

Ketel One hits the tongue with a round, smooth texture, a touch of grainy sweetness, and a plush, soft texture. The flavor was not too strong but rather balanced and refined.


The finish was velvety smooth and left a pleasant aftertaste that lingered in my mouth for a while. I also noticed a slight hint of black pepper spice that added a subtle kick to the finish.

Copper Pot Stills

Ketel One Vodka is made with a combination of modern column stills and traditional copper pot stills.

The Nolet family, who has been distilling spirits for over 325 years, still uses their original 1864 copper pot still, known as Distilleerketel #1, in the production process.

The use of copper pot stills adds a unique flavor profile to the vodka.

Filtration Process

After the distillation process, the vodka is filtered through activated charcoal to remove any impurities.

This process is done multiple times to ensure the purity of the final product. The filtration process also helps to create a smooth and silky texture that Ketel One Vodka is known for.

The distillers, following the family recipe, blend portions of the Master Pot Still Batch, the UWS, and water together to create Ketel One Vodka.

This is the stage where citrus oils and essence can be infused to create Ketel One Citroen and Ketel One Orange flavored vodkas.

Shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or olive, depending on your preference.

Moscow Mule

For a refreshing Moscow Mule, mix 2 oz of Ketel One Vodka, 1 oz of lime juice, and 4 oz of ginger beer in a copper mug filled with ice.

Bloody Mary

For a spicy Bloody Mary, mix 2 oz of Ketel One Vodka, 4 oz of tomato juice, 1/2 oz of lemon juice, 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp of hot sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a shaker with ice.

Shake well and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Garnish with a celery stalk, lemon wedge, and a sprinkle of celery salt.

Lemon Drop Martini

For a sweet and sour Lemon Drop Martini, mix 2 oz of Ketel One Vodka, 1 oz of lemon juice, and 1 oz of simple syrup in a shaker with ice.
