Loony Bin Comedy Club has locations in Oklahoma and Arkansas as well, but the Wichita location, near the Museum of World Treasures, is one of the most fun places to go out and have a laugh while sipping on your favorite beverages. They offer improv, standup, and sketch comedy shows and have various themed nights throughout the week, such as ladies’ night and open mic night.
Harry’s Uptown Bar & Grill, near Crown Uptown Theatre, is one of the best places to go out for both food and drinks due to its friendly crowd, easygoing atmosphere, and outdoor patio area that’s perfect for summertime drinks. They serve the familiar bar food we all know and love, like chicken fried steak, potato skins, and burgers, but also have wraps, salads, sandwiches, and a laundry list of appetizers. Beer is one of my favorites to pair with this type of bar food, but they also make great margaritas and other cocktails.
If you’re looking for an enjoyable bar where you can choose between sitting back and relaxing or taking shots and playing pool, Oasis Lounge is there to give you what you need! Oasis, on Maple St. across from Scooter’s Coffee, offers three different happy hours throughout the day when you can get 50% off domestic beer and other specific specials depending on the time.
Industry Old Town is a downtown cocktail lounge where you can go for a wide range of beers and cocktails. Industry Old Town is one of the best bars in Wichita because of the cozy rooftop bar and its live music shows. I also find that their bartenders are some of the friendliest in town. Plus, it’s loads of fun to play a few rounds on one of the pinball machines after having a few beverages.
If you’re looking for a more classy and upscale bar in Wichita, look no further than Mort’s, across from Aida’s Coffee House. Mort’s is the spot I go to when I want to have a date or small gathering and chat over martinis and cigars, but they also have a long list of both classic and specialty cocktails that are all worth trying. I enjoy the laid-back atmosphere at Mort’s, as well as their cozy fire pits, live music nights, and the scented cigar smell that floats around the room.
John’s Barleycorn’s is an energizing watering hole with lots to offer in Old Town, outside of Naftzger Park. I love Barleycorn’s because there is so much to do. On any given night, I may end up listening to live music, watching a comedy show, getting drinks with a date in an intimate corner, or playing pool or video games with friends. Plus, Barleycorn’s has great selections of beer and whiskey.
Delano’s is a fun sports bar near Cambridge Plaza that offers cold craft beer, quick lunches, a fun happy hour, excellent service, and, of course, plenty of TVs. In addition to various domestic beer and margarita specials during happy hour, you can also get cheap bites and appetizers here, like chicken tacos, fried onions, and duck rings.
Dockum, located a block south of the Orpheum Theatre, is a sleek and moody bar with an intimate, speakeasy vibe. I love that the drinks are strong, creative, and tasty. Thus, although they come at a higher price than other bars nearby, I usually don’t hesitate to enjoy more than one while I’m there, especially while enjoying the live mood-setting music.
Fat Ernie’s isn’t technically a bar, but the food here is so hearty and delightful that it’s the perfect place to eat before a night of drinking. They serve classic diner food in big portions. My favorite things to get before heading out to the bars include hash browns, fried chicken, and hot meatloaf.
Lucky’s Everyday is one of the most fun places to get drinks outside of the Old Town area of Wichita. It welcomes in a very friendly and eclectic crowd that inspires a fantastic environment, and the pinball machines, pool table, and other games make it all the more entertaining. There’s also a food truck out back near the patio, which is perfect for after a few whiskeys, beers, or ciders.
The Monarch, located close to the Arkansas River near the Riverfront Stadium, is arguably the best bar to go to in Wichita for bourbon lovers. They offer a massive list of bourbons, which I highly appreciate, as well as delicious, fat sandwiches that are to die for. Potato skins, tater tots, fried mushrooms, and tomato soup are other bites that people enjoy eating while sipping their bourbon cocktails at The Monarch.
