Near the East River and by Nitehawk Cinema is Skinny Dennis, a vibrant honky-tonk bar playing jukebox and live country music.
One of my favorite things about this bar is its frozen coffee with bourbon — I can never get enough! I also appreciate that they offer free peanuts to snack on as the night goes on.

Another bar near McCarren Park is The Commodore. I find the nautical theme so fun and inviting at this bar, but the scrumptious fried chicken is the best part!
