Expatriate is an engaging, atmospheric, and freewheeling place for drinking and eating just across the street from Naomi Pomeroy’s Beast. Conventional wisdom considers it a cocktail lounge, and while Expatriate is run by noted bartender Kyle Linden Webster, it is careful attention to the rituals of hospitality that makes this room hum.

I really loved the drink I ordered, Color Theory with Letherbee Gin, fresh lemon, Combier Pamplemousse, Aveze, Peychaud’s bitters. Our bartender also recommended a few of the other drinks on the menu; Havana Syndrome, Grand Strategy, and Glanost.

Opened in 2011, Interurban is the second bar from Dan Hart and Chris Navarra in Portland. The bar features pre-prohibition era cocktails, the best draft beer available and one of Portland’s most extensive whiskey lists. Their patio features sun in the summer and covered fire pits in the winter.

My all time favorite drink at this spot is the High Fashion. It comes with Olmeca Altos Tequila Plata, Frangelico, pineapple, lemon and is absolutely delicious! I also tried the Lion’s Tail and Woodman’s Shandy which were equally as good.

Their focus is on providing the highest quality craft cocktails using the freshest ingredients possible.  They do this in an upscale setting with a high level of service at a price that’s more common in a neighborhood bar.  Vault Cocktail Lounge is the sister lounge of Vintage Cocktail Lounge located in the Montavilla neighborhood.

Like Vintage, Vault delivers craft cocktails without the pretentious attitude.  Their favorite drink to make is the one you enjoy the most.

If you stop by this place, I would recommend trying the Hello Darkness; Old Forester bourbon, amaro abano, Cappalletti aperitivo, orange twist, on the rocks. Other drinks that caught my eye were the Brown Derby, Purple Drank, and El Burro. I’ll be ordering those next time I pop into this spot!
