One of the best bars just south of Downtown San Antonio is Bar 1919. This date night spot is an elegant speakeasy with knowledgeable bartenders who will surely make for an evening you and your date won’t forget. Besides the ambiance, my favorite thing about Bar 1919 is the cocktail menu. This classy spot has some of the best cocktails. My favorites are the Bleeding Sunset, Blue Jazz Fizz, and their Green Boi.

The Modernist

One of the most fun places to go out for date night is to The Modernist. The bar is modern and a little swanky, but still a comfortable spot for you and your date to grab cocktails and get to know one another better. The Modernist has a fully stocked bar, but some unique cocktails are worth trying with your date. They have one called the Unicorn Drink with candles and whipped cream that is tasty. Besides that, their house blended shots are a must.

Julias Bistro & Bar

1725 Blanco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78212

You’ll find Julias Bistro and Bar in Beacon Hill. This is the spot if you’re looking for where to get a drink but also a great meal to impress a date. The atmosphere is the perfect blend of casual and elegant. The menu here is impressive. The food is traditional French cuisine but with some San Antonio flair. The bar has specialty cocktails, beer, and a great selection of wine. Sharing a bottle of wine with your date is usually my go-to.

Sternewirth

136 E Grayson St, San Antonio, TX 78215
Phone: (210) 223-7375
Visit Website

Sternewirth is near the San Antonio River and set in a historic cellar. The appearance of the bar alone is enough to get most people visit. It’s inside The Emma Hotel, but it is its own separate area. Despite being inside a hotel, Sternewirth has an upscale vibe that doesn’t feel like a hotel bar. The cocktails are almost too gorgeous to drink. Some of my favorites to order here are The Three Emmas and Sweet Rosemary.

Faust Tavern

517 E Woodlawn Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212
Phone: (210) 257-0628

Just north of The Strip is Faust Tavern. It’s laid-back and often has live music. This local watering hole is the perfect date night spot when you want something a little more casual than some of our previous suggestions. The bar here is fully stocked, so you can order whatever you want. Beer is the most common drink here, but they also have an excellent selection of cocktails. I love trying local craft beers here and sharing a pizza with whoever I’m with.

Havana Bar

1015 Navarro St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Phone: (210) 222-2008

You’ll find Havana Bar in Downtown San Antonio along the river. The bar is inside Hotel Havana and might be one of the most romantic date night bars. The lighting sets the mood, the seating is comfortable, and the drinks are even better. The bar has pretty much everything you could want. I typically order a cocktail here, like an old-fashioned or some type of martini. Last time, I had the espresso martini, and it was delicious.

Battalion

604 S Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Phone: (210) 816-0088
Visit Website

Battalion is one of the coolest date night spots in San Antonio. It’s near the San Antonio Riverwalk, so you can stroll before or after you visit. The coolest part is that this restaurant is in a restored firehouse. You should make dinner reservations when you come here because the Italian food is phenomenal. While you wait for your food, you can order a bottle of wine to share, or my favorite, the Battalion Spritz.

The Esquire Tavern

155 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Phone: (210) 222-2521

If you plan on exploring the San Antonio Riverwalk with your date, you might as well pop into The Esquire Tavern. It’s a great spot to bring a date because of the vintage decor, amazing ambiance, and beautiful patio. The house and classic cocktails are top-notch here. Whether you like vodka, whiskey, or another liquor, you and your date will find a cocktail here to love. My favorites are the Cowboy Tears and Hush Payments.

The Moon’s Daughters

115 Lexington Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205
Phone: (210) 942-6032

Who doesn’t love a rooftop bar? The Moon’s Daughters is a chic rooftop bar that feels modern yet vintage at the same time. While you can sit inside, sitting outside offers some of the best city views. The menu here features Mediterranean cuisine, beer, wine, and spirits. They have ten amazing cocktails to choose from, as well as an excellent selection of non-alcoholic drinks. I suggest trying the Catalina Wine Mixer or the La Granada.

Barbaro

Barbaro is in Monte Vista, not far from the San Antonio Zoo. This rustic bar and restaurant makes for a casual date night, whether you’re on a first date or treating your spouse to a night out. With a fully stocked bar, you can get almost anything here. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, the Sweet Tart is my favorite. Regardless of your drinking, you can’t forget to order one of their wood-fired pizzas to share.

Ocho

1015 Navarro St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Phone: (210) 222-2008
Visit Website

Another great option for date night inside the Hotel Havana is Ocho. The bar and restaurant feel like you’ve stepped into another country with old-world charm and beautiful Latin decor. The cuisine here is Cuban, and if you plan on eating here, you might want to pick a drink that pairs well with your choice. I lean towards mojitos when I’m here because you can get a classic or flavored one.

Paramour At The Phipps

102 9th St Floor 4, San Antonio, TX 78215

Another excellent rooftop bar is Paramour At The Phipps. The decor inside is eclectic and swanky, with red leather and blue velvet couches throughout. Despite looking swanky, it’s still a comfortable spot to visit. Paramour At The Phipps has a great cocktail menu, but they also have plenty of wine and beer to choose from. You can go with something you know, but their funky cocktails are worth trying. The Tomato Paloma will definitely surprise you.

Cellar Mixology

For one of the most fun places to get drinks near the Historic Gardens, you need to take your date to Cellar Mixology. This intimate bar features exposed brick, crafty bartenders, and the perfect setting for a date. Cellar Mixology is all about the perfect cocktail, so you’ll find plenty on the menu. There’s something for everyone regardless of what spirit you’re in the mood for. I love the Star Gazer the best.
