I’d go for a happy hour draft beer and stay for a luxurious and opulent New American dinner.

169 Bar is a historic dive bar on the Lower East Side a few blocks from Pier 35. Founded in 1916, it’s one of the last original bars of its kind and worth the trip for any drinking-age history buff.
They’re famous for their pickle martin—well-deserved, in my opinion— but they have all the classic cheap booze lineup and an unbeatable happy hour.

The interior has quaint old-world urban décor with a large streetside patio for al fresco dining. Their tropical pina coco mojito was a fabulous way to end my visit.
