Around the corner from City Hall Park Center, Redbird is one of the best places to go out in L.A. if you’re looking for fun takes on classic dishes. Esters Wine Shop & Bar’s entrance is on 7th Street. Located in the same building as their sister spot, Cassia, and next to the Santa Monica Public Library. Esters Wine Shop & Bar delivers on what its name promises. I love the vast wine selection because even though it’s pricey, it’s worth every drop. Plus, the charcuterie tray goes beautifully with a glass of your favorite vintage. You can also get oysters for a special treat.

Just four miles from Chinatown, The Greyhound Bar & Grill reminds one of their favorite hometown bar with huge, tasty burgers and an excellent wine selection. The ambiance is cool, too, with plenty of rock and jazz on the playlist. This is a great spot to visit if you want to make some new friends.

Spartina is about a mile and a half from Hollywood in the Fairfax District and offers one of my favorite happy hours in the city. Pair your pint with an artisan pizza, or grab one of the bar’s fancier cocktails. The Moscow Mules are delicious.

Moo’s Craft Barbecue is right off the 136A and serves some of the most succulent Korean pork belly this side of Seoul. The brisket is also fantastic; the beers are generously sized and cold. Try their cocktails, craft beers, or specialty drinks like Micheladas for discounted prices during happy hour.

The Misfit Bar & Restaurant is a chic but welcoming place serving stellar food and drink less than half a mile from Santa Monica State Beach. I love any of their pasta dishes, and the Sichuan tomato appetizer is off-the-charts tasty. Their cocktails are also well-made and super strong.

Milo & Olive is about two miles away from Santa Monica State Beach. It has a friendly, local vibe, and the appetizers are delicious, especially the fresh prosciutto di parma and parmesan. You can get deals on it during their regular happy hours. The wine list is also good, and they do a tasty Negroni.

In downtown Los Angeles, one mile from the Staples Center, you’ll find Rossoblu, one of the top culinary institutions in the city. With inspired dishes and homemade sauces, Rossoblu is a winner in anyone’s book. Olimpia’s Tagliatelle is a great dish, and it goes perfectly with one of Rossoblu’s perfectly balanced Old Fashioneds.

About a mile from Melrose Avenue, Bacari W. 3rd is an old-school bar situated on a pretty cobblestone alley with a European feel. Enjoy the bevy of different cocktails, but don’t miss the cakes. I particularly love the selection of wines, especially the rose and house red.

A cozy American restaurant and bar called Birdie G’s can be found at 2421 Michigan Ave. in Santa Monica. The restaurant is ideal for meetings with friends or family because of its welcoming atmosphere and relaxing ambiance. The restaurant has a cocktail menu, which includes a well-known gin fizz beverage that patrons adore. The menu includes inventive dishes like foie gras torchon and smoked fish dip in addition to traditional American comfort foods like fried chicken and mac & cheese. Happy Hour is only available in the bar and lounge.

Just over one mile from Hollywood Hills, Genghis Cohen is a cleverly-named watering hole serving authentic Chinese food in significant portions.
