Akbar, located right by the Sunset/Fountain bus stop and near Barnsdall Art Park, is a cheerful, super-friendly gay bar with an unpretentious atmosphere that I admire.
I appreciate the jukebox here, stocked full of fun-loving hits that make everyone want to get up and dance, and DJ night, where people dance even harder.
Plus, they host a show called Planet Queer, which is a talent show where people showcase their dancing, singing, songwriting, instrumentation, comedy skits, poetry, and more.

If you’re wondering where to get a drink with an outdoor patio and go-go dancers, you’re in luck.
The Abbey Food & Bar in WeHo (West Hollywood), near the Pacific Design Center, is a vibrant place to hang out with friends, share small plates, and dance the night away in the evenings.
They also have excellent mojitos and tend to have reasonable drink specials.
The summer cocktail I’d recommend the next time you stop in is the Key-Lime martini, with Absolut vanilla, pineapple juice, and Key lime liqueur – yum!

The Ruby Fruit is one of the most fun places to get drinks if you’re a wine-loving lesbian and proud of it!
It has a very calming yet trendy feel during the day but turns into a more energetic bar in the evenings. Plus, it’s owned by lesbians, so you can be certain it’ll have a welcoming vibe.
It also provides a safe space for non-binary, trans, and gender-nonconforming people.
I recommend grabbing the Blaufrankisch Rose during the day or the Barbera Red in the evening.

Plaza is another one of the most fun places to go out in the town, mostly due to the exceptional drag shows they put on!
If you’re looking to have a highly entertaining evening with the girls and gays, you’ll feel right at home here. The bartenders and servers are also very friendly and knowledgeable, which I appreciate.
Plus, they have a dance floor, so you can boogie down after watching the show and having a few drinks.

I love the Black Cat, located near the Hollywood Entertainment Museum, thanks to its upscale gastropub feel and its historical significance.
It opened in 1966 when people in the LGBTQ community were labeled as having a mental illness, and homosexuality was essentially illegal.
Nevertheless, it opened as a gay bar and was targeted by the police because of it.
The fact that it withstood all the bigotry, hate, and intolerance of the past (and, arguably, the present) is why so many people in the community appreciate this tavern.
