Between Franklin Park and McPherson Square, Soundcheck is an amazing nightclub catering to EDM and techno lovers. I appreciate that it’s never overly crowded in there, granting my friends and me enough space to, well, dance! Plus, the crowd is always super friendly instead of pretentious or stuck up, as you might find in other clubs in the DMV. If you like to get down to a banging sound system, head to soundcheck.

If you’re in the mood for a full night of dancing, head to Flash, one of the most fun places to get a drink in the Shaw area. Located near Howard Theater, Flash offers banging tunes over an amazing sound system from both national and international houses and techno DJs. I’ve been to Flash more times than I’d like to admit, and I just keep coming back because it’s always so much fun. The crowd is usually so inviting as well, making it a place I’d like to call my “late-night home.”

It’s rare to find a nightclub that’s simultaneously hype and cozy, but Cloak & Dagger has seemed to achieve that perfect balance. It has a bar, a lounge, and a terrace, offering varying spaces to eat, dance, drink, chat, and everything in between. You can also find all your favorite drinks, like margaritas, punches, and mules – all at reasonable prices for DC. Some nights the DJs are better than other nights, but you’ll just have to go and find out for yourself!

9:30 Club is a hot spot in the Shaw area for awesome concerts, live music performances, and dance parties. I’ve been several times to see various artists or simply go out for a few drinks and boogie with my friends. It’s highly rated for a club, and I believe it’s because it draws in a great crowd, has friendly service, and has security that’s professional without being rude and overbearing. There’s also a delicious pub food menu!

Club Timehri, in the AdMo (Adams Morgan) area of DC, is an intimate and compact yet lively and vibrating bar that plays dancehall, soca, and reggae hits. As you can imagine, this is an excellent bar to go to if you want to get down and party hard to Caribbean beats. It’s becoming one of my go-to spots for weekend dancing because it’s always a good time. Plus, the bartenders are amicable and make excellent cocktails!

Located near Dupont Circle, you’ll find HEIST, a luxuriously designed night spot that people love going to for elegant craft cocktails and top-shelf liquor. I personally appreciate their extensive wine list, and I love going there a bit on the early side to enjoy a few glasses before the DJ picks up, and more people start coming in. The DJ usually has great EDM/techno/pop mixes that are so much fun to dance and celebrate too. If you’re celebrating a birthday, getting a table here is a great idea!
