If you’re wondering where to get a drink in Downtown San Diego, barleymash is one of the best. It’s just south of the Balboa Theatre and close to several popular hotels. It’s a modern and laid-back sports bar with a lively atmosphere. barleymash has everything you could want from a sports bar. They have a full bar with wine, beer, and spirits. Unlike other sports bars, they have a larger craft beer selection, so I recommend grabbing something local.
Dirty Birds
4656 Mission Blvd, San Diego, CA 92109

Dirty Birds is one of the best bars to visit if you’re looking for a sports bar near the beach. You’ll find it directly across from Pacific Beach, with TVs on every wall. It’s casual but gets lively during big games. People mainly come here for cold drinks and chicken wings. Normally I’m a beer drinker when at a sports bar, but their dirty mai tai is my favorite cocktail here. No matter what drink you choose, you can’t leave without getting wings with one of their 37 sauces.
Home & Away
2222 San Diego Ave, San Diego, CA 92110

One of the best places to go out is Home & Away. The sports bar sees a lot of travelers thanks to its proximity to the airport, but locals also say it’s one of the more fun places to go. When you think of a sports bar, you probably think of a lot of beer. While Home & Away has all the beer you could want, their cocktail menu is impressive. I love their la flama blanca and that you can order pitchers to share with friends.

Who doesn’t love a great sports bar right near the ballpark? Bub’s at the Ballpark is in San Diego’s Ballpark District, across from Petco Park. The bar is almost always packed, whether a game is being played or not, because it’s that lively yet comfortable. It’s the kind of place you go with friends or make new ones when you arrive. I love sharing a pitcher of beer, peanuts, and wings with friends. I love all the local drafts like Mango Cart.
McGregor’s Grill

McGregor’s Grill is in East Mission Valley, worth the visit if you’re in the area. This popular spot is frequented by adults of all ages thanks to the welcoming vibe, pool tables, and darts. The menu at McGregor’s Grill is a combination of classic and elegant. They have delicious burgers with some of the best beer to go with them. They have a full bar, as well as 18 beers on tap. You’ll love it here.
Bullpen
8199 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92111
Phone: (858) 503-6786

If you want a more hole-in-the-wall sports bar, then you need to visit Bullpen. It’s in a strip mall but is one of the most entertaining places with TVs everywhere, ping pong tables, and other bar games to play while you watch various sports. Like other sports bars, Bullpen has a fully stocked bar and an extensive food menu to look through. I always share an appetizer sampler with friends and enjoy one of the many local beers or a classic mixed drink.
The Deck at Moonshine Flats
335 Sixth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101

The Deck at Moonshine Flats is a great spot to enjoy drinks in San Diego. It’s located opposite Petco Park and offers a fun experience whether you’re attending the game or viewing it there, thanks to the outdoor setting and the lawn games. The bar menu is fully stocked. You can order almost anything here, but they’re known for their “big red cup.” It’s a small red bucket that has two full drinks inside.
Social Tap San Diego
815 J St Suite #101, San Diego, CA 92101
Phone: (619) 398-8938
Visit Website
Social Tap San Diego is another sports bar near Petco Park, but it’s a little more modern and elegant than the others. That doesn’t mean it’s better or worse than others; it has a different vibe. It’s a rustic yet chic bar with plenty of TVs. I would check out its cocktail menu since it’s more of an upscale sports bar. They all have fun names, but my favorite is their Espress Yo Self, which is their take on an espresso martini.
Bar One
1532 India St, San Diego, CA 92101
Phone: (619) 738-8978
Visit Website
You’ll find Bar One in Downtown San Diego near Waterfront Park. It’s a relaxed sports bar that’s perfect for casual dining and laid-back sports watching. Their draft menu is pretty extensive, considering it’s a smaller bar and restaurant, but they also have cocktails, wine, seltzers, and ciders. Their Juneshine hard kombucha is delicious, as is their gold rush cocktail.
The Rabbit Hole
3377 Adams Ave, San Diego, CA 92116
Phone: (619) 255-4653
Visit Website
The Rabbit Hole is outside of Downtown San Diego, near Ward Canyon Park. It’s another upscale sports bar that features trendy artwork and friendly staff. They often have live performances too. They have everything from signature cocktails to mixed drinks to beer and wine. Since they have several signature cocktails, I’d go with one or two of those. I love their Basil Bunny and herbs and rye cocktail.
SD TapRoom
1269 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109
Phone: (858) 274-1010

One of my favorite sports bars in San Diego is SD Taproom. It’s in the Pacific Beach neighborhood and is always lively yet not overwhelming. It’s casual and looks like a more modern sports bar. SD Taproom has a great weekend offer: bottomless mimosas. You can have as many as you want, whether you watch a game or not. They also have a lot of beer, wine, and other spirits to choose from.
Slater’s 50/50
2750 Dewey Rd #193, San Diego, CA 92106

Right across from NTC Park is Slater’s 50/50. This Liberty Station sports bar is a chain, but it’s still one of the best in the area. It’s a great place to gather with friends, and you can watch TV from almost every seat. You’ll find beer, wine, and spirits on their menu here. I typically go with a classic cocktail like an old-fashioned, but there’s something for everyone here. Be sure to check out their food menu while you’re here.
Mavericks Beach Club
860 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109
Phone: (858) 999-0348
Visit Website
Another one of the more fun places to grab a drink in San Diego is Mavericks Beach Club. It’s in Pacific Beach and perfectly combines a sports bar and a beach club. It’s lively and a great place to let loose. As far as the drinks, they have everything, but you can also get bottle service for your table if you wish. One thing you have to get here is their boozy otter pops. They’re like adult popsicles! You can also add them to any of their cocktails.
