You’ll find Bar 1919 near the Blue Star Arts Complex along the river.
It’s an elegant speakeasy with bartenders passionate about crafting the perfect drink.
It’s beautiful and intimate. Bar 1919 isn’t a place you go to if you want a simple cocktail.
You go here to try unique creations from bartenders who are passionate about mixology.
They have several options for scotch and whiskey here, but I love their Monte Carlo cocktail the best.

One of the best whiskey bars in Downtown San Antonio is Devils River Whiskey Distillery.
This casual spot has rustic decor and some of the best whiskey. I suggest taking a tour if you can.
If you have time, I’d do a tasting here so you can try some of their award-winning creations.
After your tasting, or if you don’t have time, some cocktails they make with whiskey that I enjoy are their Devil’s Mule and Cold Fashion with their coffee bourbon.

Sternewirth is a popular whiskey bar inside the Pearl Brewery.
It’s set in a historic cellar with swanky vibes that make you feel like the most important person in the room.
You’ll find a variety of whiskeys on the menu that you can try and enjoy on the rocks at Sternewirth.
I tend to lean towards ordering a cocktail with whiskey here, though. They make a mean Manhattan.

You’ll find Brazed Bourbon and Beer just south of Downtown San Antonio near Maverick Park.
It’s the perfect whiskey bar that you go to when you want a more laid-back atmosphere with live music and fewer crowds.
Brazed Bourbon and Beer has over 100 whiskeys to choose from. You’ll see a lot of Texas-based brands here, like Bookers and Bakers.
I always try to taste something local or from Texas, but they also have plenty of whiskey cocktails.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen and Bar is a chain but still one of the best whiskey joints in the city.
It’s in Northwest San Antonio, just down the street from Six Flags Fiesta. The place is casual yet refined with a woodsy aesthetic.
Like other whiskey bars in San Antonio, you’ll find that this spot has plenty of whiskeys to choose from and great cocktails.
I love that they have six versions of an old fashioned.
My favorite one is the American Pie old fashioned with peach bitters, vanilla, and brown-butter bourbon.

If you’re looking for one of the most fun places near Hollywood Park, you need to stop at The Hoppy Monk.
This whiskey bar is upscale yet not pretentious. It has delicious cocktails and globally inspired food.
I love the Texas whiskey flight here the best. They have several great whiskey cocktails to try if you don’t want a flight.
I suggest trying the Gold Rush or Penicillin.

Another great downtown whiskey bar is Maverick Whiskey. It’s just a block from Travis Park and a few away from the river.
It’s in a beautiful historic bank building and is a family-owned distillery that’s very proud of its products.
If you’ve never been to Maverick Whiskey before, then you need to taste a few of their most famous whiskeys.
The Texas Straight Bourbon and Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey are my favorites.

If you’re wondering where to get drinks among all bars and hotels in Downtown San Antonio, Bar 414 is a great option.
This elegant speakeasy is inside the Sheraton Gunter Hotel and features live piano music.
Bar 414 has plenty of cocktails and whiskeys to choose from.
I tend to go the more classic route when I’m here, like an old-fashioned, but they have a tasty cocktail they make with Wild Turkey, Amaretto, and some orange bitters.

Just across the river from Bar 414 is The Esquire Tavern. It’s the perfect spot to grab a drink or try a new whiskey in a casual bar.
It has vintage decor and features the longest wooden bar in the state.
The Esquire Tavern has some of my favorite whiskey cocktails in town.
I love Cameron’s Kick, Vieux Carre, and the Fox Motel Rendezvous.
Still, The Godfather is made with Japanese whisky served on the rocks and is my favorite.

It’s a vintage bar that features a chill atmosphere where you’ll see people sipping cocktails, smoking cigars, and enjoying small plates.
The cocktail menu at Rock and Rye won’t disappoint.
If you’re a whiskey lover, you’ll be delighted; if you’re traveling with someone who isn’t, there’s something for them too.
Their Daisey If You Do libation is a must-try.

One of the most fun places to get drinks in Oak Hills is Whiskeys.
It’s an old-school bar that has a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I love heading here to play pool.
You won’t find any overly fancy cocktails here, but that’s part of the charm of this whiskey bar.
They can make all the classic whiskey cocktails, but I typically go with a whiskey sour with a Texas whiskey.
