Refreshing summer homemade lemonade made from lime, lemon, cucumber and basil

Cucumber Basil Lime Gimlet

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin or vodka for a vodka gimlet
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ¾ oz basil simple syrup made by combining equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan with a handful of fresh basil leaves, simmering until the sugar dissolves, and then straining out the basil leaves
  • 3 slices cucumber
  • Ice
  • Basil leaf for garnish

Instructions

  • Muddle the cucumber slices in a cocktail shaker until they release their juices and fragrance.
  • Add the gin (or vodka), lime juice, and basil simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a basil leaf.

Notes

Pro Tips

  • Use English cucumber for the cleanest flavor and minimal seeds.
  • Chill your rocks glass ahead of time to help the drink stay cooler longer.
  • Shake thoroughly to integrate the syrup and express the fresh lime.
