Ingredients

  • 8 ounces vodka
  • 4 ounces elderflower liqueur
  • 2.5 ounces grapefruit juice
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • 12 ounces ginger beer
  • 1 piece ginger sliced
  • 2 sprigs thyme
  • 2 cups cranberries
  • 4 ounces honey
  • Star anise and grapefruit slice for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a medium pot, bring 4 ounces of water, honey, cranberries, thyme, and sliced ginger to a boil over high heat. Let boil for about 5 minutes, or until the cranberries start to burst.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. Remove the thyme and ginger slices. For a smoother syrup, strain out the cranberries if desired.
  • In a large pitcher, combine the cranberry syrup mixture with the vodka, elderflower liqueur, grapefruit juice, and lime juice. Chill until ready to serve.
  • Just before serving, add the ginger beer to the pitcher, stirring gently.
  • Garnish each glass with a slice of grapefruit and a star anise for an aromatic, festive touch.

Notes

Pro Tips

  • Homemade Cranberry Syrup: Adjust the sweetness by adding more honey if needed; the cranberries will add a natural tartness.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with sparkling water or soda and elderflower liqueur with elderflower syrup.
  • Lightly muddle the thyme sprig garnish to release more of its herbal aroma before serving.
