Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1 ounce Cointreau or other orange liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Lemon Twist For garnish

Instructions

  • Chill the Glass:
  • Start by filling a cocktail glass with ice cubes or place it in the freezer to chill.
  • Mix the Cocktail:
  • In a cocktail shaker, add a handful of ice cubes.
  • Pour in 1 1/2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey.
  • Add 1 ounce of Cointreau or your chosen orange liqueur.
  • Add 1/2 ounce of sweet vermouth.
  • Add 1/2 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Shake:
  • Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. The goal is to dilute the cocktail slightly with the ice, while chilling it thoroughly.
  • Prepare the Garnish:
  • Remove the ice from your chilled glass or take the glass out of the freezer.
  • Using a knife or a vegetable peeler, cut a thin strip of lemon peel, being careful to avoid the bitter white pith.
  • Optionally, you can twist the lemon peel over the glass to release its oils, adding an extra zing of citrus aroma.
  • Strain:
  • Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass, ensuring no ice shards make their way into the final drink.
  • Garnish and Serve:
  • Drop a brandied cherry into the glass.
  • Twist the lemon peel over the drink to release more oils, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel and drop it into the drink as well.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy.
