To be called Armagnac, this drink must be from the Armagnac region of France. My favorite brands are Marie Duffau Napoleon, Castarede Armagnac VSOP, and Chateau de Lacquy XO 17 ans.

The Darvelle Freres Brandy is ideal if you enjoy sweet brandy with plenty of accompanying spicy flavors. While it is a great sipping brandy, I also adore mixing this brandy in other cocktails, using the sweetness to my advantage.

I almost hesitate to add the Pierre Ferrand 1840 to this list because I want to keep its deliciousness all to myself. A glass of this suits any mood since the flavor manages to be a balance between fruity and oaky. While this brand is ideal for making cocktails, it also stands up on its own as a sipping cognac.
