Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries plus a few for garnish
  • 2 ounces vodka you can substitute with gin if preferred
  • 1 ounce lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup adjust based on sweetness preference
  • 2-3 sprigs of fresh thyme plus extra for garnish
  • Soda water optional, for topping up
  • Lemon wheel for garnish

Instructions

  • In a cocktail shaker, combine the fresh blueberries and thyme sprigs. Use a muddler to crush them together until the blueberries are well smashed and the thyme is aromatic. This releases their flavors.
  • Pour the vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup into the shaker.
  • Add a handful of ice to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This chilling and dilution is key for the perfect smash.
  • Strain the mixture into an ice-filled glass. You can double strain it if you prefer to keep out the small bits of blueberry and thyme.
  • If desired, top up the drink with a splash of soda water for a lighter version. Garnish with a few fresh blueberries, a sprig of thyme, and a lemon wheel on the rim of the glass.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the burst of refreshing flavors.
