Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz dark rum
  • 0.5 oz coffee liqueur
  • 2 oz cold brew coffee
  • 1 oz heavy cream optional for a smoother drink
  • 1 tsp vanilla syrup
  • Grated nutmeg or chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  • Chill the Glass: Start by chilling a highball glass in the freezer to keep your cocktail cold and refreshing.
  • Mix the Spirits: In a shaker, combine the dark rum and coffee liqueur. Add the vanilla syrup and cold brew coffee. If you like your cocktails on the creamier side, this is when you’d add the heavy cream.
  • Shake: Fill the shaker with ice. Seal it tightly and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds or until the outside of the shaker feels cold. This not only chills the drink but also dilutes it slightly, balancing the flavors.
  • Strain: Take your chilled glass out of the freezer and strain the cocktail into it. The aim is to leave the ice from the shaker behind, resulting in a smooth, chilled drink.
  • Garnish: Sprinkle a little grated nutmeg or chocolate shavings over the top for an aromatic touch that complements the drink’s flavors.
  • Serve: Serve immediately. The Insomniac Cocktail is best enjoyed fresh and cold, perfect for savoring during those late-night moments of relaxation.
