Many people are surprised that this cocktail uses vodka since the flavor of the coconut rum makes itself known. Using vodka is an ideal way to add some alcohol with a neutral foundation to ensure this drink packs a punch.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of vodka
  • 1 ounce of peach schnapps
  • 1 ounce of coconut rum
  • 3 ounces of pineapple juice
  • ½ ounce of cranberry juice
  • 1 splash of grenadine
  • Garnish: an orange slice or maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Put ice in a shaker. Combine the vodka, peach schnapps, coconut rum, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and grenadine. Shake until the drink becomes chilled.
  2. Pour the Ruby Relaxer through the strainer into a double rocks glass with ice.
  3. Garnish the glass with the orange slice or drop a few maraschino cherries into the glass.  If you want to channel a party vibe, add a cocktail umbrella.

About the Ruby Relaxer Drink

You might think this drink got its name because of the ruby red color it has once it’s all mixed and ready to serve. Actually, it’s the signature cocktail at the restaurant chain Ruby Tuesday. That explains “Ruby,” but what about “Relaxer”?

No one knows for sure, but it doesn’t seem far-fetched to think the “relaxer” descriptor comes from the fact that it’s made from equal parts vodka, schnapps, and rum. If you’ve had a long day, this drink will immediately put you at ease.

While the juices in this cocktail might make you think you’re getting something sweet and fruity, the addition of tartness will keep it from being too much. This is a smooth cocktail that you can size up to make in larger batches. Having a pitcher of Ruby Relaxers on hand will ensure you’re a popular host with your guests.

Cheers!

The Ruby Relaxer is already pretty easy to make, but if you want to skip the shaker steps, consider taking a different approach to your ingredients. Keep all of your juices cold until you’re ready to make the drink. You can even chill the glass to keep things extra cool.
