Ingredients

  • 1 cup bourbon Kentucky bourbon like Maker’s Mark or Woodford Reserve is ideal
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 4-6 lemons, depending on size and juiciness
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup you can make this by heating equal parts sugar and water until the sugar dissolves, then cooling it
  • 2 cups cold water
  • Lemon slices and mint sprigs for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Lemons:

  • Squeeze the lemons to get about 1 cup of juice. It’s best to use fresh lemons for the brightest flavor.

Make Simple Syrup:

  • Combine equal parts of sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat until the sugar dissolves completely, then allow it to cool. This mixture is your simple syrup.

Mix the Drink:

  • In a pitcher, combine the bourbon, freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and cold water. Stir well.

Serve:

  • Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the lemonade mixture over the ice. Garnish each glass with a slice of lemon and a sprig of mint.

Adjust to Taste:

  • If the lemonade is too sweet, add more lemon juice. If it’s too tart, add more simple syrup. You can also add more bourbon if you prefer a stronger drink.

Enjoy:

  • Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing taste of your Kentucky Bourbon Lemonade!
