Ingredients
- 2 ounces tequila preferably silver or blanco for a smoother taste
- 1 ounce lime juice freshly squeezed is best
- 1/2 ounce crème de violette for a lovely violet flavor and color
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup to sweeten
- Optional: salt or sugar for the rim of the glass
- Optional: a slice of lime or edible violet flowers for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Glass:
- If you like, you can rim your glass with salt or sugar. To do this, rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and then dip it into a plate of salt or sugar.
Mix the Drink:
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
- Pour the tequila, lime juice, crème de violette, and simple syrup over the ice.
- Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This mixes the ingredients well and chills the drink.
Serve:
- Strain the mixture into the prepared glass. You can either serve it over fresh ice or strain it into a chilled glass for a “straight up” margarita.
- Garnish with a slice of lime on the rim or float an edible violet flower on top for an extra special touch.
