Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila preferably a good-quality blanco for its clean, crisp flavors
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz passion fruit puree ensure it’s unsweetened to balance the cocktail properly
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz orange liqueur like Triple Sec or Cointreau for a bit of citrus depth
  • 1 egg white for frothiness and a smooth texture; can be omitted if preferred
  • Passion fruit seeds for garnish, optional
  • Lime wheel or twist for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Cocktail Shaker:

  • Add the tequila, lime juice, passion fruit puree, simple syrup, orange liqueur, and egg white into a cocktail shaker. If you prefer to avoid using egg white, you can substitute it with aquafaba for a similar texture.

Dry Shake:

  • Shake the mixture vigorously without ice first (dry shake), for about 15 seconds. This helps to emulsify the egg white and develop a nice froth.

Add Ice and Shake Again:

  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake again vigorously for another 10-15 seconds. This second shake chills the mixture and enhances the frothy texture.

Strain and Serve:

  • Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled coupe glass. This step is crucial to ensure a smooth, frothy top without any ice shards or pulp.

Garnish:

  • Scoop a few fresh passion fruit seeds on top of the froth for an extra burst of flavor and a visually appealing garnish. Add a lime wheel or twist to the rim of the glass for an extra touch of elegance.

Enjoy:

  • Serve immediately and enjoy the vibrant, tangy, and refreshing flavors of your Passion Fruit Tequila Sour.
