- ¾ oz Cream
- ¾ oz White crème de cacao liqueur
- ¾ oz Galliano L’Autentico liqueur
- Ice cubes

The Golden Cadillac is a relatively new drink and has a unique history. In 1952, a recently engaged couple arrived at Poor Red’s, a restaurant along the Lincoln Highway in California’s Gold Country. The couple, who was excited about their engagement, requested bartender Frank Cline to prepare a special drink for them.
Frank played around with some ingredients he had behind the bar, and before long, he prepared what we now recognize as the Golden Cadillac cocktail. If you’re wondering how the drink got its name, Frank suggested that the couple choose it, so they named it after their new gold Cadillac.
It just so happens that the Golden Cadillac has a gold color, which is thanks to a combination of two different liqueurs. People who don’t care for strong drinks will appreciate that the Golden Cadillac has only about 13% alcohol content. That’s because the drink contains liqueur instead of harder alcoholic ingredients.
Here’s a “drink” for thought: If you have dark crème de cacao at home and don’t want to spend money on the white variety, the taste difference between the two is negligible. The main reason we recommend using the white liqueur is it’ll help create a golden color.
