Golden Cadillac Cocktail

Many people would agree that one of the best ways to enjoy a delicious dessert is by accompanying it with a dessert drink.

As a creamy beverage with relatively low alcohol content, the Golden Cadillac pairs beautifully with most desserts. However, it pairs exceptionally well with those containing chocolate.

Read on for more details about the fascinating history of the Golden Cadillac and how you can prepare this cocktail at home.

About Golden Cadillacs

The Golden Cadillac is a relatively new drink and has a unique history. In 1952, a recently engaged couple arrived at Poor Red’s, a restaurant along the Lincoln Highway in California’s Gold Country. The couple, who was excited about their engagement, requested bartender Frank Cline to prepare a special drink for them.

Frank played around with some ingredients he had behind the bar, and before long, he prepared what we now recognize as the Golden Cadillac cocktail. If you’re wondering how the drink got its name, Frank suggested that the couple choose it, so they named it after their new gold Cadillac.

It just so happens that the Golden Cadillac has a gold color, which is thanks to a combination of two different liqueurs. People who don’t care for strong drinks will appreciate that the Golden Cadillac has only about 13% alcohol content. That’s because the drink contains liqueur instead of harder alcoholic ingredients.

Ingredients

Despite its fancy name, the Golden Cadillac only contains four ingredients. They include:

  • ¾ oz Cream
  • ¾ oz White crème de cacao liqueur
  • ¾ oz Galliano L’Autentico liqueur
  • Ice cubes

You don’t need a blender or any other fancy gadgets to make this drink—a cocktail shaker will do just fine.

Directions to Make Golden Cadillacs

If you want to “wow” your guests with a delicious cocktail to accompany the dessert you made, follow these easy instructions for making a Golden Cadillac.

Keep in mind that the numbers here are for one serving, so you’ll need to multiply it by the number of people who will be drinking it.

  1. Add ¾ ounces of each of the following ingredients to a cocktail shaker: cream, white crème de cacao liqueur, Galliano L’Autentico liqueur.
  2. Toss in some ice cubes and shake well.
  3. Strain the liquid and pour it into a chilled cocktail glass.

We’ll admit it—this recipe isn’t the healthiest. However, if you want to cut back on the calories and fat, feel free to replace the cream with half and half. It’ll thin out the Golden Cadillac some, but you’ll still get to enjoy a nice texture and excellent flavor.

Here’s a “drink” for thought: If you have dark crème de cacao at home and don’t want to spend money on the white variety, the taste difference between the two is negligible. The main reason we recommend using the white liqueur is it’ll help create a golden color.

Finally, to create a frosty glass to serve your Golden Cadillacs in, try setting your glasses in the freezer before you eat dinner. That should create the perfect amount of frost when you pull them out at dessert time.
